THERESA WILSON
With over 20 years experience in the legal field, Theresa has a breadth of experience and knowledge of law that benefits all the clients that she serves.
While her children were young, Theresa started her career as a legal secretary and became a real estate paralegal. In 1999, when her youngest child entered high school, Theresa entered law school. She attended the University of Alberta – graduating in 2002. After articling and working in various law firms for a few years, in 2008 Theresa opened Wilson Law in Edmonton.
In 2022, Wilson Law moved its main office to Calgary. There continues to be a satellite office in Edmonton to service client matters in that area. With her breadth of experience, Theresa effectively handles family law files. Theresa has litigated many different types of family cases in both the Alberta Court of Justice and the Court of King’s Bench; including: divorce, common law separation, division of property, spousal support, child custody, guardianship and child welfare matters.
For many years, Theresa has represented children. Child representation is an extremely important area of Theresa’s practice to which she brings all of her experience, training, sensitivity and sensibility, to effectively represent children who are caught up within the legal system.
Theresa approaches every case with the children’s best interests uppermost in mind – and, this child centered approach determines all of the advice and actions taken. As Theresa often says: “I am always representing the kids”.
Also, Theresa is as comfortable in the boardroom, as she is in the court room. Arriving at an amicable solution that is in both parties’ interest allows clients to have better control of their legal disputes. This saves money, and, most importantly helps to preserve the relationship between the parties – which is always in the children’s best interests.
